What is UKCA Testing?

Anyone who makes and sells items which have play value has a legal obligation to test them according to the minimum safety standard which in this country is UKCA.  Knitted or crochet soft toys or loveys with character faces or heads are things that are likely to have play value attached and therefore they must be tested to show they are safe from birth.  It isnt enought to just state "not meant for children" on your item.

There is allot of information on the internet regarding UKCA  testing which is free for you to access.  We are also happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this, but we must stress we are not a legal authority on the matter and your own research is advised.

How can I start UKCA testing my items?

The most valuable and comprehensive support we have found is the Conformance self certification pack.  Available in a digital and paper version this book contains templates for your technical files as well as a full break down on the testing to be carried out, what tools you need and how to record your findings.

You can buy the book using the link below.  The link is not an affliate link. I get no benefit in recommending this book

Can you order in items?

Yes we can.  We love our cosy shop but we appreciate it is limited for space which means we are limited as to how much we can stock in the shop.  On most occasions we can order in yarn for you subject to you meeting minimum quantities which we can discuss.  other items may be available to order in, please just let us know what you require.

Its worth pointing out that we cannot guarentee the items you request will be in stock and available for immediate delivery.  We therefore dont take payment until your items have arrived.  If there are any delays or issues with stock we will let you know and kindly ask for your patience.

How long are your workshops?

Our workshops are typically an hour to one hour and 30 minutes.  The details can be found at the time of booking.  They are hosted from our shop in Plymouth which does not have customer toilet facilities.  Please be mindful of this when booking.
